IPL stands for intense pulsed light. IPL helps treat pigmentation and vascular lesions. Significant improvements can be noted in complexion and clarity in just one treatment. Lumecca IPL works by using photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial.
Three treatments are usually recommended. Yet, noticeable differences can still be seen within the first treatment. Lumecca IPL improves the appearance of:
– Age spots
– Vascular lesions such as spider veins
– Rosacea (redness)
– Sun spots
All areas of the body can be treated. Yet, the most common areas for treatments are the areas frequently exposed to the sun. These areas include but are not limited to:
Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or artificial tanners one month prior to treatment.
During treatment there will be bright flashes of light and a light snapping from an elastic band type of sensation on your skin. Redness and a warm feeling are totally normal after treatment. After an hour, the redness and warm feeling will normally subside. Over the next two days, pigmented spots might become darker. Yet, within a week the pigmented lesions flake off which will lead to an even skin tone. After treating vascular lesions, you may notice the vein blanch and then disappear or a color change in the vein which would disappear in a few days.
Results can be noted a few days after the first session. There will be a continued improvement over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Multiple photofacial sessions will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, results can be seen in up to 2 weeks as well.
